Forest Church in Exile

This is a new venture for myself and Gloria as we’ve been part of Forest Church for a few years now and really appreciate the direct encounters with God and each other that we have had in the gounds of the Crichton Estate in Dumfries.

We are not able to be present in person for a few months but we wanted to remain a part of things by making a small contribution from where we will be as we travel in Scotland. Our first stop will be the Isle of Cumbrae!

At the summit of Cumbrae’s highest point today we came across an old plaque on a rock by Mother Basilea (Schlinck) which greets the walker with the words:

O Lord, how manifold are Thy works! In wisdom has Thou made them all: the earth is full of Thy riches. Psalm 102:24

‘High as the sun and stars above are God the Father’s plans of love – Beyond man’s comprehension. No human mind could e’er conceive The plans by which the Father leads His chosen ones, His children.’

From this high point you can see 360 degrees taking in the mainland from Largs towards Greenock and the distant Trossachs plus Bute and Argyll and Arran in the other direction. Cumbrae may be the 45th smallest Scottish island(!) but it punches above its weight when it comes to spectacle and the joy of life.

We have been drinking in the beauty of the landscape around here and seeing the clouds change constantly and the colours changing through blue/grey/green/purple/pink, all reflected in the shimmering or sparkling sea. It is easier to think about the Creator when standing within His works, which is why we do Forest Church!

The day closes as we look across from west Cumbrae towards Bute.
