Forest church in the autumn sun!

It was a clear day with a warm sun when we met this month. The gift of Elizabeth Crichton inspired as we thought about the reading from Luke for the day. The world of finance and wealth is notoriously obscure. What should our approach be, and how can we judge the actions of others?

Some of the reading seems quite straightforward. Other parts are quite difficult to understand. How are we to respond to ; “make friends for yourselves by means of dishonest wealth so that when it is gone, they may welcome you into the eternal homes.“?

Another theme we discovered was “the friendship of trees”. We took time learning their names. We found a few sycamore seeds ready and watched how they flutter as the fall, helicoptering to the ground. We looked for conkers and the horse chestnut trees. We admired the rich colours and details. We wondered why some of them are spikey and others quite smooth.

The conkers became ingredients for decorative features, or strung up and ready for a game of “mortal combat”. Well, it is in games where we learn to respond to conflict and the emotions aroused by it. It is in being childlike that we learn to distinguish true passion from childish desire.

We are joined (in spirit) by many who are unable to physically join us. This website is hopefully a way to overcome obstacles of distance and to keep in touch and share insights. If you would like to contribute, please get in touch
