Did you know that the new year begins at the end of November for the Scottish Episcopal church (and others).
With the beginning of advent we start to prepare to remember the birth of Jesus. There is an annual cycle of events, linked to the changing of the seasons. Because time has been measured using both the sun and moon, and these years don’t quite match up, measuring real time (rather than abstract time based on something unconnected with the seasons, like a clock or radioactive decay) is complicated. This means that there are many calendars. For most of the human experience changes are marked by seasons rather than dates. Perhaps it is a more gentle way to live.
However, life in modern Scotland requires diaries and here are some dates for yours!
Weaving Our Connection With Nature
November Forest Church
We meet in the Crichton estate, 2pm on the Third Sunday (so the 16th of November). Please dress for the weather. Our reading from nature this month will have the theme of “Hunting” and focus on the animal life around us.
You can read more about it here
CLC
This is the Quartz housegroup. We meet up to read, pray, try out activities, and to get to know each other! We take it in turns to host and lead the evenings for each other.
This builds a level of trust and support which is is more difficult to establish at large and occasional gatherings.
The next few dates are the 17th, the 1st of December, and to round off the (UK calendar) year on the 15th of December.
