#SensingSpirituality Thought of the Day

Glimmers in Frost

Quartz has a WhatsApp group where members share “Glimmers” moments when they recognise the presence of God in their daily lives. This can be a picture, or text, and it helps us keep in touch even when we are not in the same place for a while.

When we share pictures though, are we simply sharing photos of things we like – or celebrating glimmers of God, experiences that are more than mundane? What makes a collection of twigs more than simply twigs, or music more than the oscillation of sound particles?

Salvation is a key theme in Christianity. Reflect for a while on ways in which this can be more than simply a decision made once. Is there salvation in a lifestyle which genuinely transforms everyday moments. This is more than wishful thinking. Faith as a way of living as well as a belief in propositions. If we practice recognising the solidness of stone, then we can we call upon that when we need to stand firm. This recognition of truths of existence is part of recognising the action of the Holy Spirit in creation saving/creating/sustaining/ healing us to live in an eternity which can be found in every pebble.

Is this why Jesus describes the kingdom of heaven as belonging to children. they are less encumbered by sophisticated religious thought or philosophical thinking. They might not have thought about the geopolitical ramifications of their actions, but how many world leaders have fallen because it has become unclear whether their behaviour is childlike, or childish? The Way is not defined by status, inheritance, race, ethnicity, gender or sexuality. It is both urban and pagan. No unseen force or human will can bar you from it.

The Holy Spirit is our DNA and the pulse that beats through our being is the primal rhythm echoing throughout time and space. Life emerges, unstoppable, and invites us to join in and flourish.
