26th of January QFC

Forest Church to start the year!

Time is a funny thing. To what extent do we experience it, and to what extent do we create systems to manage our experience of it?

There are many calendars which could be used to track the beginning of the new year. Julian or Gregorian? Church festivals, or community, workplace, life events? Do we measure seasonal change or specific days?

I have always loved the idea of gathering people together to feast for 12 days at Christmas, like in the stories of the court of King Arthur.

It could recognise the seasonal change by gathering people together for a series of special activities. A time set apart from the regular routine. It would take a lot of preparation and commitment, but perhaps it will happen one day!

Clocks, phases of the moon, leaves and the rotation of planets all measure time

A less ambitious aim will be to gather at 2pm on the 16th of January outside the Crichton chapel. We will reflect on the change in the season and the weather. We will read from Scripture and respond with prayer.

I suspect going to the Crichton central for a snack and hot chocolate will also feature!
