“everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house in sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.” Matthew 7:24-27.

The message of this passage has been evident in my life. Building my home ‘upon the sand’, a flood rose and came into our house. Metaphorically, the house fell with a great crash, by which I mean, my heart was broken. I stood in isolation among the ruins. There was repentance and salvation. This is the story of what happened after I started following Jesus. I started to learn how to build my ‘house upon the rock’. I learnt something about rock climbing along the way, as it became my new career. I will tell you about this journey, where failure, fear, and accepting limitations jostled with trust, empowerment, connection, training and joy. It has not just been about surviving, but about fighting; for life, for the love of God, for the light of Christ. I hope it will inspire you, too.
