#SensingSpirituality Mission Thought of the Day

Heroes

Today is David Bowies Birthday. This post is inspired by one of the songs he wrote. In Quartz we have practiced techniques known as Lectio Divina, and Terra Divina. These inform contribute to various attempts to increase the practice of the presence of God.

Music is important in the life of many worshiping communities. I wonder though how often you listen to music composed by those outwith your religious tradition or spiritual path as an intentional spiritual act? I had a little browse and sure enough there are many people out there who practice Audio Divina (or Musica Divina).

Listening to Stiff Little Fingers is a great opportunity to practice #SensingChallenge. I reflected on spirituality a lot whilst dancing to Metallica, the Sisters of Mercy, and of course, Bowie. What is it which draws you to a particular type of music? Can you share your experiences with others in a way which builds them up?

As the forces of Law and Order struggle to control and contain they resort to physical violence and brute force. Chaos is never perfect, but we can be certain that we are making the best mistakes for the right reasons. We flourish or fade away, but that’s not the point. We are not building empires. We just live to be a certain type of hero. May God help us know who we are because there is never a shortage of people to tell us who we are not.

The mirror we see ourselves in is blurry, but one day we will know and be fully known. On that day actions that are invisible, incomprehensible, to the powers will reveal who the heroes really are. “Dilige et quod vis fac…”

The story behind the song.
