Passionate Lamentation

This year the Lenten meditation in St Johns Dunfries will take on the challenge of the struggle between light and dark. For Christians the Friday when we remember Jesus being crucified is an encounter with darkness, balanced by every Sunday where we wait for the light to emerge. This will be an afternoon reflecting on our passionate search for daylight.

All are welcome to reflect on this, whatever your beliefs – we will not try to tie you down to ours!

Dee working on her Sculpture

Dee, a Dumfries based artist has been working on a Sculpture of St Michael wrestling with a dragon. The leader of angels overcoming the leader of the fallen. The patron saint of Dumfries whose picture is seen all over town.

  • What does this mean to you?
  • What helps you overcome darkness?
  • Who are your heroes!

We will have a labyrinth. Experience walking into the heart of darkness and the rest in the light. Then bring that light out with you.

We plan to use the hall to represent the time between Good Friday and Easter Sunday. Simon is putting together a soundtrack of lamentation, rage prayers, a recognition that all is not right. But that there is also a thread we can follow to the source, drink at a well of living water, and flow from it with life.

Other installations to be announced!

The afternoon will follow prayers for peace at 12 noon. You can drop in, remain a while. Meditate in silence or chat with the artists.

We also hope to be open into the evening until 7 for those who work during the day! So call in on your way home before tea.
