Ascension 26

Alison and Mark chose the theme of “Ascension” for the last contemporary service before the summer.

They chose a simple format which worked well. Alison was keen to provide an “Interweave” style format. This uses atmosphere and activities to give participants the opportunity to encounter the theme.

Footprints leading to the alter and back. Participants have added phrases from the readings.
Jesus put “boots on the ground” rather than managing things from afar.

She set the visual scene using a ladder reaching upwards from a desert wilderness. Mark used his Roland keyboard with piano and bass to sculpt the sound and lead the music.

Everyone enjoyed making angel wings and footprints while taking in the readings. These use the exiating architecture of the building to explore the presence of Jesus with us now, and the link to heaven. The alter where communion is celebrated and Jacobs vision of a ladder that revealed the presence of God to him in a barren place.

There will be a short break from the contemporary evening services as people travel during the summer.

We look forward to gathering the team again after the summer though! Refreshed and renewed with stories from finding the presence of God where all of us travel.
