Earth Day

On the 18th of May we are spending a morning in St Johns exploring “Creative Church Building”. The two most popular topics with people who have registered so far are “Forest Church” and “Modern Pilgrimage”.

If you are interested, our own St John’s Forest Church gathering is at 2pm this Sunday. Meet outside the Crichton Chapel at 2pm.

  • We will meet in Christs name,
  • Read (both from the bible text and natural environment)
  • Pray and worship.
  • Recognising “Earth Day” We will also explore the theme of Planet vs Plastics

There will be an outline of the day posted online for those who are unable to physically make to the Crichton.

Meanwhile…

What is Earth day? Good question. I was vaguely aware of it, but didn’t know much. However, it started in the 1970’s and is a movement rather than just one day. Whilst it started in the USA it’s aspirations are global and a reminder that people have been concerned about our relationship with the planet, and in particular our use of oil, even when Tupperware was trendy and new.

You can read this introduction to it on the BBC website

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-68610073

And here is where they describe themselves – or more significantly signpost you to actions you can take, and if you are still interested it is a gateway to learning more about the movement.

Our environmental legacy is a testament to the power of collective action, and it calls upon individuals, businesses, governments, and the private sector to join hands in safeguarding our planet. Now, more than ever, we must step up our efforts to combat climate change, protect biodiversity, and preserve our ecosystems. Join us today and fight for a sustainable and thriving future.
